A nice little walk through Beddgelert takes you to Gelert's Grave, the final resting place of the legendary dog Gelert, who belonged to Prince Llwelyn the Great. I would recommend people to stop here and take a look at this interesting monument. It's a nice stroll through some fields of sheep and takes you to an interesting piece of Welsh lore.

In the heart of beautiful Snowdonia lies the lovely village of Beddgelert named after the Welsh tale of the noble dog, Gelert. In Beddgelert there is a tourism centre, many gift shops, eateries and a beautiful walk where you can visit Gelert's grave and read about his tale. There is also a lovely sculpture of Gelert in a nearby pen (protecting it from getting defaced).
For a dose of fresh air, gorgeous views and Welsh culture, Beddgelert is definitely worth visiting if you're in the Snwodonia area.

      A wonderful dedication to Gelert

The grave of the legendary dog Gelert. It is worth finding out about the story of the dog and going to visit the grave. It is a nice short walk along a footpath on the banks of the Glaslyn to get to the grave which is Beddgelert's most historical feature.

This is what the grave reads which tells the story about the dog:

In the 13th century Llewelyn, prince of North Wales, had a palace at Beddgelert. One day he went hunting without Gelert, The Faithful Hound, who was unaccountably absent.
On Llewelyn's return the truant, stained and smeared with blood, joyfully sprang to meet his master. The prince alarmed hastened to find his son, and saw the infant's cot empty, the bedclothes and floor covered with blood.

The frantic father plunged his sword into the hound's side, thinking it had killed his heir. The dog's dying yell was answered by a child's cry.

Llewelyn searched and discovered his boy unharmed, but near by lay the body of a mighty wolf which Gelert had slain.

The prince filled with remorse is said never to have smiled again. He buried Gelert here.
