Red Roof Inn Kalamazoo East - Expo Center

Wanted a cheap hotel after my other nightmare experience with check in at a different cheap motel, so booked this & arrived around midnight.
Staff were friendly and welcoming, which is really the only positive.

The place is not clean. White linens are stained, the laminate wood floors are certainly not swept or mopped regularly. Some updates such as a nice small TV and modern faucets and sinks, but I just really want a clean room, don't care much about modern fixtures.

Saw a small bug on the floor as I opened the door and entered. Soon after saw a cricket scurry on the other side of the room.
Feel like I need a shower in a clean environment after sleeping here.

Also, this is a motel, not a hotel, so the parking lot and cars driving by can be loud at night/early morning. Plus you need to bundle up to go grab coffee in the lobby in the morning.

This could work if you are desperate, but I would recommend paying more to stay in a clean hotel.

If I could give a 0 star review I would. Just NO. Got into town with reservations for another hotel after arriving was told they were "overbooked" and I had no where to stay after driving 4 hours red roof inn was my ONLY option to have a place to stay at midnight and honestly wish I would've just slept in my car instead. On arrival front desk lady was very nice then everything went downhill. Room was FILTHY walked in and immediately saw stains on the bed and chairs, floor wasn't swept in weeks, dents all over the door and refrigerator and towels were FULL of stains and literally black. I have never felt so gross in a place in my life. Ended up leaving the next morning after just one night and was still charged for two full nights. Absolutely terrible experience. Please do yourself a favor and stay anywhere but here!!

My mom and I stayed here the night before I moved out of Kalamazoo - just wanted a simple, inexpensive place to crash for the night before leaving because everything was packed on the UHaul. Giving two stars because the front staff was very nice and accommodating when moving us to a new room and locating a hair dryer for us, plus mailing us an item that we left behind. But it was a 1-Star accommodation.

First room around the back had a plugged toilet with feces in it and smelled terribly of smoke - at least 3 smokers were standing outside on the balcony smoking both cigarettes and pot (judging by the smell). Second room was closer to the front desk area and smelled only faintly of smoke, but sheets had old stains...I don't think they use bleach when cleaning.

It was my first time staying at a red roof and I wasn't impressed to say the least. I would've rated 1 star but the front desk clerk was very friendly and helpful when it came to trying to find a place that delivers while my truck was in the shop. The room itself had a horrible smoke smell, and I'm a smoker! Being that this is a non smoking hotel that level of stinkiness was at full force. The sheets had stains on them which is just plain nasty, and the shower wasn't clean like it should be.

Personally, based on the location, there are several other options very close by that are within the price range of this one.

This is very conveniently located over the highway and pretty well priced(low cost). Rooms were clean except some stains over the sheets.
Also there is a strange smell of smoke all over the rooms. It's not too strong still just there when you enter the room.
The front desk tried to switch the room still all the 3 rooms had it.
Rooms are tried to be kept uptodate.
It's basic rooms and would serve the purpose well if you are there to catch a quick sleep and go back to your own way on the road!

I understand this a cheap room with virtually no amenities but what I dont understand is the blood on the sheets, blood on the walls, and how every single towel was dirty. I expected a stripped down, simple room, not the Ritz. But for the love of christ at least make it clean. I know the housekeeper saw the stained sheets when she made it. There was no way to miss it. Highly do not recommend.

Stayed here five nights, Tues-Sat night. Decent amount of space. Reasonable if you're not spending much time in your room other than sleeping. That said I have two praises and two complaints.

First complaint: the room was almost unbearably dusty. After the first night my dust allergies and the Michigan spring pollen conspired to fuck up my sleep and my breathing.

First compliment: when I asked the front desk if my room could get a thorough vacuuming and explained the misery of my first night, they were sympathetic and kind, and I believe they did so. The following nights were better, with the exception of...

Second complaint: the bedspreads in my room are badly stained, which I don't know if they're also unhygienic, but I'd guess they are.

When the temperature dove into the 40's on the third night of my stay, I pulled the comforter up around my shoulders? And the following morning had an even WORSE allergic attack than my first night.

I actually borrowed a fleece blanket from the friend I was visiting because she was sure it had been washed recently. I slept better the last two nights of my stay, with my friend's fleece. So soft.

Second compliment: hot water was plenteous and quick to come to the taps. Great water pressure. The shower was a joy in that regard and helped abate the allergies.

Last comment: somewhat disappointed by no hair dryer in my room, but again, the front desk clerk was very responsive and got me one as soon as I asked.

I'd recommend a stay here for budget minded travelers with stout constitutions. I'd also request of Red Roof: please for the love of God, wash your comforters at least once a month, vacuum your carpets between each guest and vacuum drapes at least twice​ a year.
Dust. Ugh.

The web site made the rooms look very large and the hard wood floors seemed to be a major plus. The price was great! We booked the more expensive, larger room to get the fridge/microwave upgrade. I read the reviews online and thought 'it can't be as bad as everyone says... drug dealing bikers, etc' and it kind of wasn't? It didn't smell like smoke at all, pot or cigarettes but there was a very cracked out, disheveled looking woman trying to get a room that looked very homeless but harmless and got turned away. The staff was friendly and our room was.... smaller than expected and if I were you, I'd keep my shoes on. I wiped down the desk that was covered with greasy finger prints and then looked at the bottom of my feet after only being there a half an hour. They were dirty as ef! I took the washcloth and mopped the floor... twice (pictures posted as well) but other than that and the stains on the sheets, it was okay. We got back from our event and the place was packed! Our new neighbor was outside, drunk and stumbling but promised us he wouldn't be loud and he wasn't. We were on the ground floor and we didn't hear a peep from anyone. If your'e swinging through and need a quick place just to sleep, this is fine. If your'e going to be hanging out in the room for a spell, id suggest someplace a little more $$.

So disappointed, I had a mouse in one room, ants in all of them, a broken heater in another, a broken toilet, filthy floors, the cleaning staff or the manager stole a significant amount of money from my room the day I left and asked them to clean my room, Kalamazoo cops said they couldnt do anything, weird the lady that was cleaning that day only worked there 2 days and resigned the day she cleaned my room. And as a guest there I was told I was trespassing? The cops told me not to come back for a year? For what?! I was well within my legal rights. Horrible staff, cant get the proper towels when asked. Couldn't borrow a mop like I have at other hotels around the area. Please take your $$ across the street!

We booked this room after a long day of driving and based on Bring Fido reviews alone. MISTAKE. Not sure where to start. The rooms were dirty, full of water damage and mildew. Our non-smoking room smelled like a marijuana farm. The door didn't lock - which wouldn't be a big deal, except this is in the ghetto. Charcoal lit on fire in the grass, and call it a barbecue. Homeless people loitering outside. Drunk teenagers sitting on coolers outside of our room. I personally witnessed two drug deals while trying to walk my dog. Anyway, you get the idea.
